I have always enjoyed being creative, especially sewing. My love affair with sewing began at an early age when I was given my first sewing box for my 8th Birthday by my very talented grandmother. She filled the sewing box with everything I'd need to get started, which sparked an interest in crafting, sewing and learning the skills to make and mend. I especally love all things vintage, wonderful fabrics and buttons.
I attended Birmingham Institute of Art & Design where I had the freedom to explore many techniques, and used textiles, stitch and photography most predominantly in my work.
My husband and I live in West Dorset and have two daughters. Our eldest recently started school and needed a PE Bag for her kit. I decided to make a unique bag and gave her the chance to choose the fabrics she wanted. I stitched her name in large letters across the middle and she chose a design motif. When her bag was finished she absolutely loved it and was desperate to show her friends. My hobby soon turned into rather more than a hobby as orders started coming in for bags to be made for her friends, and then friends of friends. Word spread and “Handmade by Linzi” was born!
I regularly attend courses and workshops and have gradually added to my handmade range of items. My daughters are a constant source of inspiration and I'm often guided by them as to what I make next.
Personalised items make fantastic gifts, and the chance to select from a choice of fabrics means people can design their own – handmade to order with a personal touch!
